Action Plan

Preparation of "The Status Survey and Conservation Action Plan for European bison" is one of the most important activity of EBSG. This task has been started almost ten years before publishing during the PHVA workshop organized with the CBSG, when the previous chair of BSG professor Z. Pucek explained the meaning of the Action Plan for Bison spp. After obtaining in 1999 the funds from Large Herbivore Initiative, he started to work on this document. In April 2002 the members of the EBSG met in Bialowieza to discuss the final version of the Action Plan. In 2004 Action Plan was hopefully published. It is an effect of collaborative work of specialists around Europe. It highlights the possibilities and means for saving this largest mammal and present the history of the species extinction in the wild and the subsequent process of restitution.
